The Anti – Trump, Hillary, Protest, Officer Slain, Black Man Killed By Police, Useless Sports, Tired of Terrorism and Bank Scandal Rant

This is the longest title I have ever used in a blog post or for my podcast but I want to see what happens. This is a rant.  You have been warned.  Is Facebook evil?

Is one of the most popular social media sites ever created, evil or just the place where we show the worst side of our personalities?  Has mainstream media focused all our waking and short attention spans to the same stories every day?  Do we have to respond to the barrage of updates about:

  1. Trump
  2. Hillary
  3. Protest
  4. Officer slain
  5. Black Man killed by Police
  6. Sports
  7. Weather
  8. Terrorism
  9. celebrity news
  10. Bank Scandal

I can’t believe the fights that have occurred over the very un-presidential campaign within families. I am tired of hearing of young people looting and rioting. It seems there are police officers and young black men killed every day. The sports talk is boring to me. Baseball season is too long. I don’t care if millionaires stand or go to one knee in protest of a country or National Anthem they don’t respect. It’s flooding somewhere. There are banks taking advantage because they can. Someone in Hollywood is getting divorced, again.
So is all that is left is our need to be the funniest, most sarcastic, wittiest after hearing and viewing the top news? No, maybe not. With the exception of some wedding anniversaries, births, and birthdays, all that is left is idolatry, greed, covetousness, love of money, gluttony, complaining, high-mindedness, disobedience, witchcraft/astrology, lover of self, putting family, friends, job, or anything else above God including food, money, sports, inter, TV, Internet pornography, movies, cars, attachment to riches or material goods and dozens of other things.
Then there is the cursing, swearing, blaspheming, breaking oath taken in God’s name, irreverent use of God’s name in humor, and speaking evil of the church. Cursing father or mother, dishonoring parents, striking or fighting with parents, disobeying parents, making fun of parents, filthy talk, laziness at work, defrauding, dishonesty, cheating, gambling, the false witness, Coveting, envy, lust, jealousy, drunkenness, sorcery (Greek means drug abuse), materialism, wantonness, sensuality, gambling, desire for power, desire for sex (relating to sexual immorality), anger at other’s good fortunes, desiring things of others, flirting or playing with temptation.
Is this just the rant of a Christian pastor? Maybe, or do you notice the prevalence of evil too. Everything I named is sinful.

Are you so used to it that it no longer bothers you? Have you been indoctrinated into it? Have you seen how hard it is to remain positive? How about how rare we speak positively about anything?

Do you blame social media sites like Facebook or ourselves?

Do we know the difference between good and evil anymore? Some people don’t believe there is evil. I submit to you that evil is a choice.

Evil is the aberrant side of human nature.

Evil is a contrast of good. Only God is good. The absence of God is evil, as the opposite of Light is darkness.

Genesis records that Satan deceived Eve by telling her that God was keeping something from her and Adam. It’s one of the first accounts we get of evil, the devil and what’s wrong in the world.

For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” – Genesis 3:5

She had to make a choice to disobey God. Do we know the difference between good and evil anymore?

For those that don’t think there is evil, I disagree and point to physics.

In science we have the word,

“Vacuum” it is space void of matter. Notice how it is used in Genesis 1.2. The word stems from the Latin adjective vacuus for “vacant” or “void”.

An approximation to such vacuum is a region with a gaseous pressure much less than atmospheric pressure.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. – Gen 1:2

At first there was nothing desirable to be seen, for the world was without form, and void; it was confusion, and emptiness. In like manner the work of grace in the soul is a new creation: and in a graceless soul, one that is not born again, there is disorder, confusion, and every evil work: it is empty of all good, for it is without God; it is dark, it is darkness itself.

I don’t believe you can have one thing and not another. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Why do we choose to do evil today online? Why do we purposely hurt the feelings of others when we don’t have to? How does all of this fit into our psychological need to be loved, to belong and to esteem ourselves?

What do you get out of sharing mental garbage? Do you profit by trash talking more a sports team than you do to your family members? What happened to the word respect? Who has some? When did two wrongs make a right? Why would people trash, burn and loot their own city and think they are doing something to further the Cause? Who kills in the name of God and thinks that is correct? Why are we still banking with criminal enterprises that falsely open accounts in our names? Why do unarmed men challenge scared armed people in uniform?

end of rant…

The Bible says, Choose your [online] friends wisely.

The righteous choose their friends carefully, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.- Proverbs  12:26 NIV

A short story

 “Does evil exist ?”.

The university professor challenged his students with this question. Did God create everything that exists? A student bravely replied, “Yes, he did!”

“God created everything? The professor asked.

“Yes sir”, the student replied.

This is the longest title I have ever used in a blog post or for my podcast but I want to see what happens. This is a rant.  You have been warned.  Is Facebook evil?

The professor answered, “If God created everything, then God created evil since evil exists, and according to the principal that our works define who we are then God is evil”. The student became quiet before such an answer. The professor was quite pleased with himself and boasted to the students that he had proven once more that the Christian faith was a myth.

Another student raised his hand and said, “Can I ask you a question professor?”

“Of course”, replied the professor.

The student stood up and asked, “Professor, does cold exist?”

“What kind of question is this? Of course it exists. Have you never been cold?” The students snickered at the young man’s question.

The young man replied, “In fact sir, cold does not exist. According to the laws of physics, what we consider cold is in reality the absence of heat. Every body or object is susceptible to study when it has or transmits energy, and heat is what makes a body or matter have or transmit energy. Absolute zero (-460 degrees F) is the total absence of heat; all matter becomes inert and incapable of reaction at that temperature. Cold does not exist. We have created this word to describe how we feel if we have no heat.”

The student continued, “Professor, does darkness exist?”

The professor responded, “Of course it does.”

The student replied, “Once again you are wrong sir, darkness does not exist either. Darkness is in reality the absence of light. Light we can study, but not darkness. In fact we can use Newton’s prism to break white light into many colors and study the various wavelengths of each color. You cannot measure darkness. A simple ray of light can break into a world of darkness and illuminate it. How can you know how dark a certain space is? You measure the amount of light present. Isn’t this correct? Darkness is a term used by man to describe what happens when there is no light present.”

Finally the young man asked the professor, “Sir, does evil exist?”

Now uncertain, the professor responded, “Of course as I have already said. We see it every day. It is in the daily example of man’s inhumanity to man. It is in the multitude of crime and violence everywhere in the world. These manifestations are nothing else but evil.”

To this the student replied, “Evil does not exist sir, or at least it does not exist unto itself. Evil is simply the absence of God. It is just like darkness and cold, a word that man has created to describe the absence of God. God did not create evil. Evil is not like faith, or love that exist just as does light and heat. Evil is the result of what happens when man does not have God’s love present in his heart. It’s like the cold that comes when there is no heat or the darkness that comes when there is no light.”

The professor sat down.

The young man’s name — Albert Einstein
