I am thankful to the Creator of heaven and earth for all that I am, have and strive to be. i am thankful for good health, and strength. I am thankful for being in my right mind. I am thankful for all that I am still able to do. I am thankful for my family, the immediate and the extended. I am thankful for my job and the creativity to make things happen. I am thankful for all the opportunities that present themselves to me daily and the chance to help someone else.
Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have.
I have a beautiful family. I have a wife that puts up with my artistic ways and still loves me after 25 years. I have a beautiful daughter that can light up a room with her energy. She is truly a phenomenal woman. I have a son who is beginning his journey into manhood in this day in age with a cautious step. He is cool though. He is Ken 2.0. My mother and father are still kicking, just not high.
I live in a great nation. It’s not perfect either but its the best I’ve seen. I am proud and thankful to be an American. I can do things my ancestors couldn’t imagine. In spite of the idiots and naysayers, this is a great time to be alive.
Through the combined and sometimes wicked power of the internet I have met and continue to meet great people. Through this medium and the spoken word, I have preached, taught, encouraged, inspired, questioned, admonished, joked, sang, and disagreed with more people than I could in any one place.
I have had the opportunity to expand my thinking, reasoning, and learn from others through discourse such as this. I am still learning. I don’t have a perfect life. I have made mistakes in life and business that some people don’t come back from.
O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. – Psalms 105:1
When I resigned from the pastorate of a small church in Washington, DC, my peers secretly cheered for me for doing the unthinkable. I have not compromised on my faith. I wasn’t putting up with a club disguised as a church. With the heart of a pastor I took my show back on the road and have been ministering where needed. Mostly that has been online. It has been in the most unlikely of venues. Who would have thought that being the Black Man With A Gun, would grant me access to the hearts of thousands of gun owners, veterans, law enforcement, bikers, hunters, and outdoor loving people. To God I am thankful. Despite what His enemies have thrown at me, I am still standing.
In the past few months I have applied for several jobs to no avail. I am thankful for that too. Though dishearten I am also believing that I am being kept in one place for something that will bless me.
Those sad times have also brought out the best in me.
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. – 1 Thessalonians 5:18
I have been giving the opportunity to help my friends at Women’s Gun Show podcast grow through production and promotion of their podcast. It’s a show sponsored by Ruger firearms. Barbara Baird and Carrie Lightfoot talk about the dreams, contributions and viewpoints from women shooters.
I am thankful for other friends I have like Dave Jackson from the SchoolofPodcasting.com who has and continues to teach me tricks of the trade in digital influencing. Listening to Dave, introduced me to an event that was being held in my own town that I did’t know about called DCPodfest.com
I recently got the chance to present there which introduced me to the Krimistos family that are producing the Podfest.us event in Orlando, FL in February 2017. Now I am going to speak there.
I am thankful for the medium of podcasting for it has giving me the opportunity to do radio-like show which was a dream I had since childhood. I am that guy now without the stress of traditional radio business practices.
My work is appreciated and given me the opportunity this month to be a part of a new project of Cale Nelson, Modern Christian Men, whose podcast will be released soon. Cale who is already a successful podcaster (though he doesn’t know it yet) has Ham Radio 360. He is a blessing.
It is always good to talk to men. Good conversation, is great.
I am thankful for all of this because it came at a low point as it always seems to. I was considering ending the Black Man With A Gun podcast after episode 500 which will happen before years end. I had thought I needed a new site, a new direction and something more when all I needed to do was clean up what I already built and slap a new coat of paint on it. I am thankful for the fellas that help me like Dave Cole, Michael J. Woodlands and Ray Price that help me provide good content for the site and podcast.
With the help of professionals I now think 2017 is going to be amazing for me and I am thankful to God for all of this.
O give thanks unto the LORD; for [he is] good: because his mercy [endureth] for ever. Psalms 118:1-18
Being thankful and grateful is good for your soul. It’s more than going over someones house for turkey and your favorite foods. Its more than the football game, alcohol and Black Friday marketing. Counting your blessings can boost your happiness and your overall sense of well-being. Feeling and expressing gratitude can make you happy in the moment. This post for example made me feel good. By writing down positive things that happen to you and actively acknowledging those who have helped you, you become better at recognizing the good in your life, which naturally helps you feel more grateful and thankful more often.
I know its hard sometimes. I can’t speak for you, but I personally don’t like being in business with jerks. I work with some. I don’t like whiners, complainers or otherwise unpleasant-to-be-around people. There are too many smart, talented and pleasing-to-be-around individuals in this world for me to want to work with or hire the ones that aren’t. But they are there.
As a podcaster, I have made some great strides. I am creating a business to help people create blogs and podcast to promote their brands.
When you’re grateful we tend to exude and share that contagious positive energy. People like me like that and we tend to be drawn more to us. Gratitude is contagious.
And then there is my big, hairy audacious goal of being larger than life. Being the trusted face and voice for a few on video. With the help of some friends I am going to do that. (if I can find the money) I am planning a video project that may turn into a tv show if I can find the investors. Look for big things from Thundershot Studios.
Accentuate the positive;
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative;
