Stuff happens.  I think it happens to Christians more than anyone.  When it does, you have to act like you know God.  1 Peter 3:15 tells us that

Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.  1 Peter 3:15

Here’s some advice for getting through it.

This is a straight forward talk about tithes and offerings.  Malachi 3:10, 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, Luke 6:38

God wants us:

1. To manage what we have for His glory.

2.  To manage our time, talent, temple, testimony and treasures.

3. To give back a portion of what he has given us.

The New Testament, where the church begins had a different approach to giving.  They gave what they had for the good of all.  (Act 2:44)

Are you ready to give your all?

What is your motive for your giving?  If it is to be prosperous, you’re wrong.  You can’t quid pro quo with God.

Is it to be seen and appreciated by people in the church?  Then, you are wrong again.  God looks at our heart.  He owns this world and everything in it.  We are merely stewards of what we have.  Remember the Scripture of the husband and wife team Ananias, and his wife Sapphira in Acts 5 that held out?  Again the heart can condemn you. As a tool, money is a good indicator of where your heart is though.  The synoptic Gospels tell us, where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Jesus told us, in Matthew 10:8: freely ye have received, freely give.

The Lord will reward each person as they give, however, not always in the way you may expect. And because it’s not quid pro quo, we shouldn’t be looking into heaven with our hands open down here.  God will reward you in the way He wants to.  Have a giving heart, and let God take care of the rest.

It’s not about a percentage.

Come on and get out the pit and sing.

He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
    out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.

He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear the Lord
and put their trust in him.

Psalm 40:2-3
