<itunes:summary>This week on The Urban Shooter Podcast, Kenn talks about Semi-Automatic handguns, Jam-o-matics and which gun is good for you. This week his Black History spotlights, Harriet Tubman. He shares a piece from Alan Korwin on “Diplomatic Carry.” Barbara Baird explains “who is the Gun Lobby,” as gleaned from Jeff Knox of The Firearm Coalition. I have a big Black Man With a Gun shout out to AmmoLand.com for the love. Talking about crowds and some strange facts. Zombie Strike #119.“You know what’s strange?” “Towns are full of people, houses full of tenants, hotels full of guests, trains full of travelers, cafés full of customers, parks full of promenaders, consulting-rooms of famous doctors full of patients, theaters full of spectators, and beaches full of bathers. What previously was, in general, no problem, now begins to be an everyday one, namely, to find room.” Jose Ortega Y Gasset Harriet TubmanMaybe you’ve seen the movie where Cicely Tyson portrayed Harriet Tubman in “A Woman Called Moses.” Or perhaps you are somewhat familiar with the African American woman known has Harriet Tubman, that risked her life to rescue three hundred people from slavery. If not I want to share with you some things about her and the period in which she accomplished these great feats of daring for America. Harriet was born c.1820 at the Edward Brodas plantation near a place called Bucktown, in Dorchester County, Maryland. This is on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Harriet was the 11th child born to Benjamin Ross and Harriet Greene (slaves of Edward Brodas), her given name was Araminta and she was often called "Minty" as a child. After she became an adult she called herself Harriet. She was loaned out to several plantations as a child and suffering from hyperthermia and malnutrition got sick at the age of twelve. A year later, while defending a fellow slave who tried to run away, her overseer struck her in the head with a two pound weight. This resulted in recurring narcoleptic seizures, or “sleeping spells,” that bothered her the rest of her life. She lived hard. She married twice but never had any children. On foot she escaped from Maryland in the middle of the night and fled to Pennsylvania. In Pennsylvania, worked and saved money to finance herself on the many return trips she made south to free her people getting the nickname “Moses.”Harriet is the only African American woman of history that is commonly depicted with a firearm. She was operating as a fugitive considered as a crazy as a rabid animal with a bounty on her head. During this time in American history, possession of a firearms was illegal for a person of color. This racism is the base of gun control today. The rationale was that a slave was not considered human, inferior and not responsible enough to have a gun without permission from his master. It was illegal to sell ammunition to a black person. For these reasons, I take offense to people that repeat that “black people” shouldn’t have guns. A black woman with a gun freed three hundred people. The pistol that Harriet Tubman was known to carry was probably a Navy Colt. A very large pistol that is not easy to conceal as a modern firearm. She was from Maryland, “The Old Line State.” This is the beginning of the Mason Dixie line. A state that still has discretionary self defense gun laws. A state that still has a Saturday Night Special law, a racist term that makes firearms cost more than they have to, economically impacting the access to the poor. It is a state that rations firearms with a one gun a month rule. It has a Handgun Roster Board that prohibits certain firearms from being able to be sold in the state for cosmetic reasons. If the gun looks scary or was in a movie, it is a good chance you won’t be able to get it in Maryland. One of the things I liked in the movie portrayal of Harriet Tubman is the instance where you see that Harriet had to pull her pistol on a man she was trying to save.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>This podcast shares an interview I had with the president of EAACorp.com, Keith B., that introduces the K2 seen here, and I give some more tips for Valentines Day. My first black history story combines a hero of the American Revolution and “character.” Mrs. M and Barbara report in. Barbara is working for RealTree Camo now. Congratulations to her. I share my thoughts on the below news story, and there are others on kennblanchard.com. Zombie Strike is down to the final three chapters. It will conclude this month. Don’t miss the dramatic conclusion. News: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/politics/clout/chi-mayor-rahm-emanuel-wants-state-handgun-registry-20120209,0,5729705.story Our Question of the Week was answered by 37 members of my facebook.com/blackmanwithagun1 family. No ExcusesThis week starts the series of Black History I plan to present on the Urban Shooter Podcast. I plan to start the conversation with a little known African American of the Revolutionary War that was esteemed as "A Brave and Gallant Soldier."
His name is Salem Poor whose character was such from the Battle of Bunker Hill that fourteen officers sent a petition to the Massachusetts legislature declaring that he behaved like an experienced officer, as well as an excellent soldier and added that "a reward was due to so great and distinguished a character." In this battle, African Americans suffered more than 1,000 casualties. Of the 2,400 to 4,000 colonists who participated in the battle, no other man is singled out in this manner.Poor was born into slavery c.1740 but he managed to buy his freedom in 1769 for 27 pounds, a year's salary for the typical working man of the day. He was a married father that left his left his wife and child behind in May 1775 and fought for the patriotic cause at Bunker Hill, Saratoga, and Monmouth. Maybe it's time to emphasize what makes us different, less and our character more.

According to John Adams, the American Revolution occurred in the hearts and minds of the American people years long before shots were fired at Concord and Lexington. He saw the War for Independence as merely an "effect and a consequence" of the real American Revolution. "I have a dream that my four little children will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. "
~ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.It is our collective character that is failing today. When I think about my time on active duty as a US Marine. My pride came from knowing that the men and women that wore the same uniform were accountable and responsible. It was that character that is missing when people in the cities blame the gun for violence. It is that lack of character that I hear when mayors talk about a gun show loophole. It is socially acceptable to blame everything but the lack of character of men that commit violence against innocent people.I humbly ask the veterans and patriots among us to continue to stand for what is right so that others will have a standard to see. You won’t see it in politics. You won’t see it in Hollywood. And too many talking heads, don’t respect themselves, their communities, or this Nation. Freedom isn’t free. “It is not how we look, but how we live that defines us.” The Zen of Gun Ownership
If you have an idea for the show, some news, or anything you think will fit, feel free to send it to me. I appreciate your help keeping and making this show great! Let the good times roll! thanks,Rev.
