For those of us determined to excel in this podcasting space, I want to share what I have learned about podcast album art and design. Podcasting as a medium is still the wild wild west. You can do whatever you want. You can publish your audio files to a bunch of new and different channels. None of which will give you a boost by itself. If you want to do well in podcasting, there are some best practices.
Your art work for example is extremely important for your podcast. Your album art is often the first impression you make on your potential audience, so make sure it’s a good one.
According to the last specification requirements cover art must be in the JPEG or PNG file formats and in the RGB color space with a minimum size of 1400 x 1400 pixels and a maximum size of 3000 x 3000 pixel.
Your cover art must also be an exact square. This means that pixel height and width have to be the exact same. Most people will be viewing your cover art from their mobile devices. That means if the title of your podcast not in an easy-to-read font, they might skip right past you. So make sure your podcast title is in a clear font that’s easy to read.
A good rule of thumb is to never use more than two fonts on Apple Podcast cover art. Try to avoid artwork that is too “busy”. You want it to be easily recognizable, even when the listener can only see a thumbnail.
Your audience is more likely to find and click onto your show from the plethora of podcast if you have album art. If your logo looks DIY, people will question how well you are able to deliver your products or services. Having a professional looking, well designed graphic builds trust.
Most likely, you will have competition in your niche. Study your competitors to see what they do and then try to differentiate yourself without going too far.
